On October 7, a known terrorist group called Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel. Israel’s Prime Minister soon declared that the country was at war. In one week of conflict, more than 3,000 people have been killed, and another 10,000 have been wounded. Hamas has reportedly taken many hostages, and thousands are fleeing the war zone.
As the war continues, our prayers are with Israel and the thousands who have been affected by this devastating conflict. You can join us by praying through the following five Scriptures.
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May those who love you be secure.’” -Psalm 122:6
Lord, we pray for peace in Israel and the entire region of the Middle East. Please put a stop to those who seek to do harm to this nation, and bring a swift end to this conflict. Allow lives to be spared. We earnestly ask for Your divine intervention to usher in harmony in Israel.
“He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” -Psalm 91:4
God, please protect the civilians in the war zone. Shelter those who are fleeing, those who have been taken hostage, and those who are sheltering in place. For hospital and aid workers, please protect them so they can bring healing and relief to the wounded. Please allow missiles and bullets from Hamas to miss their targets.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” -Psalm 34:18
Holy Father, comfort those who have lost loved ones, homes, and more in this war. Show them that You are a loving God who cares for them and wants them to run into Your arms. Help them see that they can turn to You for peace beyond understanding and everlasting comfort.
“For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” -Romans 10:12-13
Lord, open the eyes of those who don’t know You. Remove the scales from their eyes so they can see that You are Lord of all and call all people to You. Soften the hearts of Israelis, Palestinians, and even those in Hamas to acknowledge You as God. Please make the gospel clear to them today so that they will put their trust in You.
“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” -1 Timothy 2:1-2
God, please give wisdom to Israel’s leaders as they navigate the situation and make critical decisions. Allow them to set aside any pride or dissent so they can do what is best for civilians. Guide them by Your sovereign hand, and lead them in the days ahead. We pray these things in the name of Jesus, amen.
