At the sound of a Babe’s first cry, God’s miraculous plan for our salvation unfolded …the Christmas Story is one of wonder.
Wonder that a young Jewish girl was chosen to deliver the Son of God (Luke 1:26-38).
Wonder at the Messiah’s humble roots (Matthew 2:6, Luke 2:7).
Wonder at the fulfillment of God’s promise for a Savior (Isaiah 9:6, Luke 2:11).
Charles Spurgeon captures the wonder of the Christ Child:
“Infinite, and an infant. Eternal, and yet born of a woman … Supporting a universe, and yet needing to be carried in a mother’s arms. King of angels, and yet the reputed son of Joseph. Heir of all things, and yet the carpenter’s despised son. Oh, the wonder of Christmas.”
Billions of people in our world have yet to experience this wonder because they have never heard of Jesus—His miraculous incarnation, His justifying crucifixion, or His glorious resurrection. Yet, even in His last days, these very people were on Christ’s heart.
Before He returned to the right hand of the Father, Jesus entrusted us with a mission:
“...Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation (Mark 16:15)."
At His parting words we are invited to tell all people about the wonder of the greatest gift we’ve ever received… to leave our places of comfort as He did to come to us so everyone could rejoice in the wonder of Christmas.
East-West wishes you fullness of joy as you join in the global celebration of the coming of our Savior this Christmas!
