A Whisper of Faith

Our van rolled to a stop on the side of the road. We stepped out and noticed no other car in sight—only two horse drawn carts piled high with what would become charcoal.

A little girl greeted us and led my church worker and I to the house across the road.

The homeowner—known affectionately by my church worker as “grandma”—had been resistant to the gospel of Jesus Christ for over 60 years. But my church worker wanted to reach out to her one more time.

I then learned that the little girl who greeted and guided us to “grandma’s” home was her actual granddaughter.

I introduced myself, heard grandma’s life story, and told her about Jesus Christ. After sharing several Bible verses, I asked her about her relationship with God and where she would spend eternity. She was uncertain about her life after death.

I shared that eternal life was guaranteed by genuinely trusting in Jesus Christ as her Savior. As I talked, her granddaughter moved near and whispered into her ear. I still wish I knew what she said. My best speculation is that she told her grandma that it was time for her to believe in Jesus.

A few minutes later, she did. That day God gave me the privilege of sharing the gospel with grandma, but the constant love of her granddaughter and my church worker softened her heart to believe!
