In South Asia, the gospel caught fire, spreading from village to village as people came to faith and shared the grace of God they’d received with members of their community.
One of those new believers was a Hindu priest who performed religious rituals for the village chief. At the news of his conversion, the chief was outraged.
His security rested in the priest’s sacrifices to the Hindu gods, so he called the local army to have the former priest arrested and the message of Christ silenced.
The priest and seven other believers were accused of being “underground militants,” taken to the army camp, locked up, and beaten. Their possessions were confiscated and searched. Among these possessions was an Evangecube that illustrated the gospel.
The army officers asked the incarcerated believers about the Rubik’s cube-like item, and they boldly responded by sharing the good news of Jesus. The message struck a chord with their persecutors, and they asked to watch the JESUS Film that night.
Through the believers’ courage, the story of Christ was declared to their abusers, and, though they didn’t believe the message, seeds of faith were planted that day.
The next morning the priest and his fellow captives were released and continued their journey to unreached villages, resolving to boldly proclaim salvation in Christ alone despite the threat of persecution.
