It was twenty minutes but it felt like an eternity.

It was the day that Abena* and Osei* had packed up all their belongings and walked from their country into another.

The walk took twenty minutes … but the short distance they traveled was covered in land mines and patrolled by armed guards who would not hesitate to imprison them or even shoot them.

But once they were safely across the border, they knew that some higher power more powerful than the god of Islam had preserved them.

Abena and Osei always knew that there was something more. It was what made them decide to flee their nation and leave their families behind. And one day, they learned Who it was that had protected them during that twenty minutes and—really —their whole lives.

When they met the East-West partner and he began to talk of Isa al Masih (Jesus the Messiah), they knew this was the powerful, living God they sought.

He told them the whole story … birth, death, resurrection. And the more they heard, the more they were convinced.

That’s when they decided to follow Isa and share His love and forgiveness with everyone that would listen.

Today, Abena and Osei are being discipled and trained by an East-West partner. As they learn more about the God who saved them, they become more committed to serving Him with their whole lives now and forever … no matter where He may take them next.
