Read Colossians 3:23-24 and 1 Peter 4:10.

The Lord has recently reminded me about my part in His story. For many of us, we see the "heroes" of the faith all around us. For employees of East-West—like myself—we see heroes of the faith each and every day. It can be so easy to fall into comparison with other believers ... to wish somehow we could be used "like them" or walk with the Lord "that closely." The enemy is so crafty to plant thoughts in our mind about our part of the plan.

The truth is we are not all destined for the spotlight. Each one of us has a part of the wider, grand story that God is weaving all around us. I can so easily lose sight of that while doing everyday office tasks or even shopping at the grocery store. I hear these amazing stories from our field staff, and I can feel almost left out of God’s story.

But how can this be when God is working even now as you sit? He is good, and His plans for us are good. I can be effective each day as I use “whatever I do” as to the Lord and not to men.

If you are a mother, you have a divine role to play. If you are a businessman, God has put you there for a reason. If you are a field staff member, you are doing your part and your calling. God looks at our hearts. Each day is a gift. Each action we take is a step toward our inheritance. We are ambassadors for Christ wherever we are, for however long we live. I so need that reminder to seek my part of God’s story today.

Father, help us to do whatever tasks You’ve given us today excellently as a part of the greater story You are writing around the world. Amen.
