Michael—a stateside missionary with East-West—spent an evening prayer walking through an apartment complex in hopes that that God would orchestrate a meeting with someone in need of Jesus.
A few minutes into his walk, he met Grant and asked if he could pray for him. Michael followed his prayer with a question: do you feel close or far from God?
Grant quickly expressed he was far from God, and Michael shared a story of two kingdoms—light and darkness.
The missionary shared that only Jesus—through His finished work at the Cross—could rescue Grant from the kingdom of darkness and bring him into His Kingdom of Light.
Grant admitted he wanted to turn from his sins and needed Jesus’ forgiveness. Michael assured him that anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved (Romans 10:13).
Right then, Grant knew what Michael said was true and asked God to save him through Jesus.
But their conversation didn’t end there. Michael opened his Bible to Acts 2:
“When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?’ Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins … Those who accepted his message were baptized...” – Acts 2:37-28,41
After reading the passage, Michael asked Grant what the people in the story did after repenting and believing in Jesus. Grant responded that they were baptized and that night he decided he wanted to be baptized too.
Within minutes of meeting Jesus, Grant entered the baptismal waters to display his faith in the Christ’s cleansing blood.
