This week’s changed life story is written by Kurt Nelson who recently returned from a mission trip to Latin America.
Roy* was sitting in his decrepit little wheelchair on his front porch waiting for our scheduled visit. Sadly, Roy had lost both of his legs above the knees two years ago due to poor circulation. It surprised us all when, despite his great physical limitations, Roy had a very joyful, jovial and positive outlook on life.
He was not bitter but was, in fact, very happy, engaging and quite funny!
David*, my translator, and I continued in our ministry rhythm—he shared his testimony and I shared the gospel with the Evangecube. Roy smiled pleasantly and nodded along as we shared the good news with him.
When I asked Roy if he was ready to place his faith and trust in Christ for his salvation, he smiled widely and nodded his head as his eyes twinkled with understanding. Then I did something I had never done before—I knelt down so I could see Roy eye to eye.
With eyes open, I led him phrase by phrase in a prayer to trust Christ. It was an incredibly powerful experience—and one I will never forget—to actually watch this man go from death to life through his heartfelt belief in the gospel!
