Read 1 Corinthians 13:14.
At East-West, we value humility and seek to see that quality ever increasing in the character of our staff. I am personally not great at humility. It is something I constantly have to battle to possess, so I made myself a list of the top 10 reasons to pursue humility.
10. Arrogant people are repulsive (James 4:16).
9. You have been rescued from abject spiritual poverty (Ephesians 2:1-10).
8. You have absolutely nothing to be arrogant about (1 Corinthians 4:7).
7. You have absolutely nothing that you did not receive as a gift (James 1:7).
6. Humility allows you to escape self-absorption and focus on others (Philippians 2:3-4).
5. God is opposed to the proud (James 4:6-7, Proverbs 16:5).
4. God gives grace to the humble (James 4:6-7).
3. Humility allows you to love as Jesus commanded (Matthew 22:34-40).
2. God commands humility (1 Peter 5:5).
1. Jesus is humble (Philippians 2:1-7, John 13, Matthew 11:29).
One way I’ve learned to gain humility is to memorize, meditate on, reflect on, internalize, focus on, embrace, accept, and obsess on this truth: Absolutely everything I have was given to me as a gift.
Father, daily remind us that everything we have is a gift from you. Help us to set aside our pride to mirror the humility of our Savior. Amen.
