Heart and Home

During a short-term mission trip to Latin America, a group of missionaries set out to share about the love of Christ. And that’s when one team—comprised of an East-West trip participant, national partner, and translator—found themselves gathered around Reynaldo’s kitchen table.

Reynaldo had heard of Jesus, but the missionary team still insisted on sharing the Word of God with him that day. In an expression of Latin American hospitality, Reynaldo consented.

The East-West missionary took the lead, letting the gospel pour from his mouth. He explained the sacrifice of Jesus and the significance of what Christ endured on the cross for not only him and his ministry partners, but for Reynaldo too.

Reynaldo was intrigued by this message. The things he’d heard about God and Jesus were never this extraordinarily loving and kind.

As the missionary went into more detail about the gospel, Reynaldo’s daughter—Crystal*—walked into the kitchen with a look of concern. She wanted to know what these Americans were talking to her father about, so she listened as the missionary team and her father dialogued on faith.

Soon her concern turned into curiosity. Within minutes Crystal piped into the conversation, saying, “I want to open my heart to Jesus Christ and start a Bible Study in my home and invite my neighbors!”

After Crystal’s profession of faith, her father followed suit; that day Reynaldo and Crystal met their Savior and opened their home for others to grow in their love and knowledge of the Lord.
