In late April, Hazel* went on a mission trip to southern India to evangelize. She spent so much time making arrangements for the trip that she felt her heart wasn’t prepared for the work she would be doing.
As she boarded the airplane, apprehension swept over her, especially about sharing the gospel. So Hazel prayed—asking that God would speak through her in spite of her inexperience.
One day, as she worked with the children’s ministry in a vacation Bible school, the jetlag, unrelenting heat and nonstop schedule began to take a toll. When a young girl attending the VBS invited Hazel into her home to rest and cool off, Hazel felt God prompt her to share the gospel.
Although she was nervous and not feeling her best, she followed the Lord’s guidance. She pulled out a gospel bead bracelet—like the ones they made that day during VBS—and began to share the story of Jesus with the young girl.
She walked her through the whole story of salvation as she pointed to each different colored bead. When she came to the end, the little girl joyfully accepted Christ into her heart and thanked Hazel for bringing her the Good News.
At first, Hazel was frustrated with not being able to take part in all of the VBS activities that day, but after this experience she realized something crucial: God is faithful to make Himself known.
He used Hazel’s sickness to redeem the young girl and bring her into a relationship with Him. If we’re just willing to submit to His purpose—even on our weakest days—God will use us.
