In 2016, a group traveled with East-West missionaries to help with children’s ministry in Africa with the purpose of sharing the gospel with children using props and storytelling.
Masks, hats, hand motions and more were pulled out as they told groups of children about Jesus and taught 10 local leaders how to do the same. As they left to return to the States, the missionaries and trip participants knew and trusted these believers could more effectively share this ministry within their own community.
After all, they know their neighbors and culture best.
A year later, these national believers have led hundreds of children to Christ through these storytelling techniques. Initially, the props grab the children’s attention, but the local leaders know this time is not just for entertainment.
The stories they tell carry a serious message with a joyful ending and resonate deeply with the children in the audience. Despite their youth, many have experienced and understand the brokenness of the world and their own need for a Savior.
A year later, our missionaries have received photos and reports of hundreds of children learning about Christ and choosing to follow Him through the 10 local leaders who were trained to share the love of Christ with their African communities.
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." –Matthew 19:14
