It was a typical day at the salon for Allita. It was the only thing that made her feel normal since her cancer diagnosis.

Entering a shallow slumber as her hairstylist and manicurist went to work, a faint ringing of a doorbell and soft footsteps interrupted her rest. She opened her eyes to an unusual salon scene.

Three men—two East-West national partners and a short-term mission trip participant—stood in the doorway. She thought to herself, “They certainly aren’t here for a manicure.”

The men exuded peace and asked if they could share a message of hope with the shop customers and employees.

At their concession, the East-West short-term trip participant shared his story about meeting a Man named Jesus. The Man he described was a sacrificial servant, compassionate healer, and profound teacher. One of his companions added that Jesus was the only Son of God who was sent into the world to seek and save the lost.

Allita listened intently and contemplated the words the men shared … something about Jesus resonated in the depths of her soul.

She had heard of the God of Christianity, but her circumstances flooded her with doubts of His goodness. How could this God be good when breast cancer ravaged her body and innocent children died from terminal forms of the disease?

As she reflected on the gospel message, she suddenly realized that Jesus’ work on the cross was God’s goodness manifested for the world to see … despite her circumstances.

The men walked her through Scriptures that told of Christ’s power to heal the sick and asked her if she believed in Jesus … the ultimate proof of God’s love.

For the first time in her life, Allita realized God truly is good and trusted Christ as her Savior.

Allita is still battling cancer, but her spirit is revived by the eternal hope of Jesus. Hope that if God wills it, she can be healed. Hope that even if her cancer spreads, God is still good because of Christ.
