Sharing the gospel through personal evangelism can very intimidating.

Even if you get the courage to do it overseas on a mission trip, it can be a difficult transition to boldly step up to someone you know (or even someone you don’t) to speak about Jesus Christ.

Fortunately, there are tools that can help you do that, so that you can confidently speak about your Savior to those you meet

The Bible

We know that God’s Word is powerful.

"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." – Hebrews 4:12

So if you’ve got that, then you’re already on the right foot. You can memorize verses, carry a Bible with you, or mark up verses in a smartphone app—whatever works best for you.

Testimony

Stories are the most effective way to communicate just about everything … even the gospel. So why not tell your story?

Your testimony is personal, relatable, and full of God’s work in your life. You shouldn’t be afraid to share it. It’ll help others relate more fully to the gospel message and works more easily into everyday conversations than some other methods.

We put together some tips for preparing and practicing your testimony that will help you as you narrow down what your story is and how to tell it.

Tracts

Tracts have been around for a long time, but it doesn’t mean that they’re not still useful.

If you’re someone who needs a little bit more of a reminder of what to say, then having a tract with more written information could be helpful.

Plus you can find them with different themes and angles to complement your style or the personal concerns of the person you’re talking to.

We’ve got several different tracts available to help you out:

  • Is Jesus God? (In English, Spanish, Mandarin, and Vietnamese)
  • Can I Really Know for Sure? (In English and Spanish)
  • Does God Really Care about Me? (In English and Spanish)
  • The Challenge of Jesus – Come (In English)

You can get each of them by emailing info@eastwest.org and requesting whichever tract you want in whichever language you need. They range in cost from 55¢ to$1.25 each.

Evangecube

You might be a little more of a visual person. So if you prefer pictures to words to trigger your memory of the gospel, the Evangecube may be right up your alley. This is a cube that folds in many directions to display appropriate photos as you walk through the gospel message.

Because it’s comprised of photos, you don’t have to worry about someone not being able to understand the words written on it or being distracted by someone else’s words.

The Evangecube is a little bulky to carry with you, but it can be a big help if you find yourself talking about Jesus and feeling like you need some pictures to go with what you’re saying.

Wristbands

Rubber wristbands are now for more than showing you support a cause. These days they’re made for just about everything, and that include sharing the gospel.

Some of them come with symbols and some with colors. Our favorite wristbands come with colors and Bible verses to keep you from getting lost as you walk through the gospel with someone.

God called us to share the gospel and make disciples—start developing a list of missions verses if you need some more motivation—and it can be a scary task to take on. But just because it’s scary doesn’t mean we can opt out.

Remember, that your job is to share the gospel. The Holy Spirit can take it from there. It’s up to Him to change hearts, not us. Don’t forget to start every encounter with prayer—so that you’ll find courage, clarity, peace, and wisdom in sharing the gospel.

And hopefully these tools can help you find your own gospel groove as you share the matchless love of Jesus at home and overseas.
