The following post is written by a missionary on our Diaspora Team.

For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." –Mark 10:45

Once, I went on a missionary biography reading binge and read about the life and work of some of the more famous missionaries in church history—David Livingstone, Adoniram Judson, and Cameron Townsend among others.

One thing that struck me at that time was the variety of their work.

These missionaries established schools, healed the sick, interacted with heads of state, engineered practical devices, learned languages, wrote dictionaries, translated the Bible, drew maps, founded orphanages, and fostered children.

I often wondered how they had time to do such a wide range of tasks. A few years later, I now realize multitasking is just a part of missionary life.

You will do anything to spread the goodness and love of Jesus Christ to others.

We’ve done some unexpected tasks on the mission field. We’ve built a recording booth in our basement in hopes of broadcasting God’s Word to our target people group. We’ve explored legal issues related to copyright laws for books and songs. We’ve also searched for free or inexpensive legal work for a refugee at our church.

I’m confident these tasks are just the first of many ways we’ll be called to respond to physical, emotional, and spiritual needs in hopes of bringing the light of Christ to the unreached in our city.

Through all of this, I’ve learned that life is never dull when you are serving God and people. Obedience to the Great Commission requires us to be servants to all in varying forms.
