Standing on the Rock, Part 2

If we place our security in things that can be taken away, we grow in insecurity and fear. Why? Because we’re choosing to build on things like money, position, beauty, and family, which are ultimately fleeting.

When we do this, we’re building a sand castle. It looks impressive and beautiful, but the first little wave starts to destroy what we worked so hard to construct. As the waves of life’s circumstances roll in, fear consumes us, and eventually the big waves demolish our castle of sand.

This causes our sense of security and significance to falter, and the door for fear—one of the biggest struggles for today’s Christians—swings wide open.

Jesus as the Rock is the believer’s only security.

His love and acceptance stands firm on God’s grace, and He promises to never leave or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6). This moment-by-moment grace constantly pours over God’s people and can never be taken from us.

That truth is what makes the child of God confident and courageous. Those who have built their lives upon the truth of God’s unmerited and undeserved grace will live and die confidently.

“The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” –Psalm 18:2

This description of the Lord as our Rock is a clear picture of the security and safety found only in Him. That Rock-type truth gives God-type security.

When I feel insecure or fear that something is about to happen that might shake my strength in Christ, I pray, “Father, thank You that You are meeting my every need in Christ Jesus and that You are always with me, no matter what.”

Brothers and sisters, today let’s choose to stand on the Rock of Truth—Jesus Christ—who says, "'I am with you always ... (Matthew 28:20).'"
