Read Exodus 19:3-6, Exodus 20:18-21, and 1 Peter 2:9-10.
In Exodus 19, God gives the entire nation of Israel their identity as priests—those who minister to people and share about the goodness of God. One chapter later, Israel rejects their identity. Instead of walking in their God-given calling as priests, they delegate the task to Moses.
Today we’re still tempted to be like the Israelites. When it comes to ministering to our broken world, we want to leave the task of making disciples to the well-educated and talented ministers that fill the pulpits in our churches.
But the gospel rights man’s wrongs. At the cross, Jesus restores our identity as priests—those who are called to declare His marvelous light to those living in darkness.
Let’s be faithful to proclaim the praises of our King!
God, thank You for reminder that You’ve made us priests. Reliant on Your Spirit in use, we are fully capable to minister to the lost and broken. Amen.
