Throughout Psalms, we see men—like David and Asaph—journaling their feelings, crying out to the Lord and hoping that He will meet them, bless them, and deliver them from their situations.
One of the most recurring verses in the psalms is, “Give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever (Psalm 136:1)."
Repeatedly the psalmists remind themselves of God’s goodness and love.
They are desperate for His protection and help, and need Him to be their source of strength in troubled times. Almost every psalm—no matter how desperate they begin—ends with praise, worship, and trust in the Lord our God!
As David and the other psalmists write out their requests, they trust that God has the power to do whatever they ask in each of their circumstances, and they’re quick to give Him thanks.
When we know His power, authority, goodness, and love, we, too, are quick to give thanks and trust Him. This trust is at the core of the Christian life.
In this trust, we believe that God acts only for our highest good because of His great love for us. This truth allows us to echo the thanks of the psalmists in each and every circumstance.
This is why Paul was able to say, “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances (Philippians 4:11)."
Paul was content because he believed in God’s love and trusted that God ordained every detail of his life for his ultimate good.
Our Lord’s first agenda is to transform us into His Son’s likeness. When our faith is tested, we can trust He will “do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us ... (Ephesians 3:20)."
Because of this, we can relate to what the psalmist writes in Psalm 9:10: "Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you."
We have a loving Savior. Trust Him today because He loves you.
