After a day and a half of hiking through the mountains, Gwyneth*—an East West mission trip participant—and her translator came to the home of 14-year-old Vanna* and her 8-day-old baby. Within moments of conversation, it was clear to both women that the Holy Spirit had already been at work on the young girl’s heart.

As Gwyneth began to share the gospel through her translator, Vanna recognized the Good News as the Truth she had been seeking.

She was filled with joy at first … then a spirit of fear washed over her as she considered how her family would react to this life-altering decision.

Vanna was part of an all-Hindu family, and she lived with her new husband and many of her other relatives. She knew there could be serious consequences to following Jesus. But then the two women who sat with her in her home told her something that challenged her heart.

Gwyneth explained that one day when she stood before God, she would have to answer for herself. Not her husband, not her father, not her grandmother—but herself. She only needed faith the size of a mustard seed to believe in Jesus as her Savior.

Vanna could hardly believe that such small faith could make such a big difference in this life and the next … but she did. And that day chose to follow Christ.

When the two women left that day, a beaming Vanna held onto the greatest gift she had ever received … a loving Savior and a powerful God who would be with her no matter what the future would bring for her and her family.
