Before coming to faith, Chau worked for the United States government during turbulent wartimes in his nation. Communism split his county in half, and he landed behind enemy lines. When his city fell to the local government, he was sent to a "re-education camp" for five years.
It was during those very difficult, dark days that Chau heard the gospel and trusted in Jesus.
He’s now walked with the Lord for over three decades and has a heart to see all people in his nation hear the good news of God's redemptive story. To that end, Chau plays a vital role in seeing his passion through as a champion of East-West’s equipping efforts in Southeast Asia.
Referred affectionately as “Mister Chau,” he serves East-West’s Equipping Team as a lead translator and uses some of the very skills that landed him in a “re-education camp”—his knowledge of the English language—for the glory of God.
His giftedness in language enables East-West to translate all communication—emails, training documents, scriptures and more—between English and local languages. In doing so, Chau is helping empower local believers with the tools they need to see the gospel rapidly move through their borders and beyond.
