Why is the American Church silent about the love of God and the Cross of Christ?
I believe the God of all glory may be shouting at His people—the Church—today because He desires to shock our hearts anew with a desire to go public with our identity in Christ Jesus.
The Bible tells us that “faith comes by hearing" (Romans 10:17, NKJV). Maybe this is why the American Church is retreating—people aren’t hearing the gospel anymore.
Scripture also tells us that “without faith it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6). Faith is proactive, so when we live by faith, it shows the world we have a deep trust in God and desire to please and honor His beloved Son. What we do tells others what we believe.
For example, I don’t really believe a rope will hold me up unless I trust the rope and jump to experience its strength.
Nothing about the Christian life is ever status quo. Everything about what we do today gives insight into how we’re doing in the fight of faith. And our Lord graciously gives us everything we need to do all that He asks of us today through His indwelling presence.
Despite challenges, we are to be His witness as we trust His presence and power in us.
We have been given the “message of reconciliation” to “go and make disciples” and “let [our] light shine before others” (2 Corinthians 5:19, Matthew 28:19, Matthew 5:16). We are to “bless those who curse [us], pray for those who mistreat [us],” “speak the truth in love,” refrain from worry and lose our lives for Jesus (Luke 6:28; Ephesians 4:15, NLT; Philippians 4:6; Mark 8:35).
Wow! We are called to a lot of action each day as we live as new creations in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). But we have these promises from our Savior to help us:
The Christian faith is a daily faith. Today is all we need to worry about as we live for the sake of Christ and the gospel. Today, we are each surrounded by divine appointments and opportunities to break the silence.
I pray that we—by faith—step out and trust Jesus to speak into the circumstances God places in front of us. We have such a great Savior. Go tell someone about Him today!
