Read Genesis 50:20, Psalm 73:26, 2 Chronicles 20:15, and Acts 13:29-30.
Even though I have been a follower of Jesus for over 40 years, I am still amazed that I can look at situations without factoring God into them. I become overwhelmed when I focus on the problem at hand. Why do I so easily forget that my God is active and wants to be involved in everything I do?
My two favorite words in the Bible are, “But God.” It seems like every time I read of a difficult situation in Scripture, “But God” is strung in the passage. The characters involved could only see the problem and wasted time wringing their hands for a solution. How hard would it have been to factor in the God they worshiped?
Here are a few examples I’ve noticed recently:
Joseph told his brothers in Egypt, “You meant evil against me; but God meant it for good” -Genesis 50:20.
The psalmist said, “My flesh and my heart fail; but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever” -Psalm 73:26).
King Jehoshaphat was told, “The battle is not yours, but God’s” -2 Chronicles 20:15.
The Bible says, “They took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb but God raised him from the dead” -Acts 13:29-30.
My prayer is to become a person who does not say, “God is good, but I am in a terrible situation.” Instead, I want to say, “I am up a creek, but God is good and will work in and through this.” I may be in a lonely, hard place. I may not know what to do, but God does, and I will trust in that.
God, You are good. Increase our faith to believe that in all of our situations. Amen.
