Read Psalm 90:14.

The Hebrew word for “God’s steadfast love for us” is hesed and is sometimes translated as loving-kindness. The word is rich with meaning and used all over the Old Testament to describe God’s constant, faithful, freely given, unfailing love for Israel. In the moments I wrestle my emotions while preparing to move to the Middle East, this word overwhelms me with the magnitude of God’s love for us.

God repeatedly uses hesed in the context of morning, reminding me to bask in His love at the dawn of each day. I’m prone to focus so much on God's sovereignty and working with Him to fulfill the Great Commission that I look past the first thing that drew me to Him—His radical love! His love came after me when I was a wandering sheep … lost, helpless, and without hope.

The love God showed Israel time and time again is the same love He revealed to me when I was so far from Him. His love displayed at Calvary is the reason for the sweetness and joy of our daily walk with Him. I rejoice in His love as I prepare my heart to move to a foreign land. He really is all we need.

God, thank You for Your overwhelming Calvary love that refreshes us each morning. Amen.
