Read Ephesians 1:3-9.
As I read and reread this text numerous times over the past several months, I became fixated on the following thoughts:
- We were chosen before the foundations of the world (Ephesians 1:4).
- We are chosen for a purpose, and that purpose is God’s will (Ephesians 1:5).
- God revealed the mystery of His will (Ephesians 1:9).
- God’s will and why He chose us is “to unite all things in Him, things in heaven and things on earth” (Ephesians 1:10).
God specifically chose you and me to work toward uniting all things in heaven and earth on His behalf. He desires to bring all things back to their original created order.
Before coming to faith, I was a dead man. When I met Jesus, I was revived, and His Spirit now lives in me. At this beautiful exchange, my driving purpose became apparent—I was chosen to redeem others to Him and to contribute to restoring His original, created order. And so are you.
What a great honor and privilege to be chosen ones!
Father, reveal to us the ways You’ve designed and chosen us to unite all things in heaven and earth back to You. Amen.
