Coming to Faith through Curiosity

Lucas* sat on his front porch, observing three people strolling through his neighborhood in Latin America. The white skin of one of the passersby caught his attention most and he beckoned them to his doorstep.

He soon learned they were a Christian missionary team comprised of two local believers and an American.

Lucas’ memory flashed back to his prison days when he first read books on Christianity. He was curious about the faith and how it differed from the Santeria idols he worshipped daily and displayed in tattooed ink on his arms. Despite the time he spent reading behind bars, he still didn’t understand the Christian message.

These visitors were his opportunity to learn more, so Lucas eagerly welcomed them to share about their faith.

The American believer shared her story and the gospel first. When she finished, the clouds fogging Lucas’s understanding of Christianity instantly parted as he came to fully understand the grace of God displayed by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.

Lucas responded with, “I wish I would have always known this story about Jesus,” and chose to follow Him that day.
