Focusing on Perfect Love

Written by John Maisel | Mar 27, 2020 11:15:00 AM

As we focus on our world today, may we think biblically, praying for wisdom from our Savior and Lord in order to act differently, speak differently, and serve our networks differently because of our hope in Him.

“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” -Philippians 1:21

First, to live is Christ. As I think on this eternal truth, I must remember that Jesus has “‘All authority in heaven and on earth ... (Matthew 28:18).’” When things don’t make sense, I cling to Jesus, knowing that He will connect all the dots at the right moment, for my good and His great purposes. As Charles Spurgeon once noted, “... when we cannot trace His hand, we must trust His heart.” Why? Because His love is perfect for me and all His sons and daughters.

His beloved—His creation—took Him and crucified Him, but three days later He conquered death for all who simply thank Him and take Him as their Savior. Yes, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son ... (John 3:16).”

In difficult and fearful circumstances, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).” God is in His rightful place as our Creator, Lord, Savior, and Heavenly Father. We need to have awe of the Lord God Almighty and childlike trust in His heart and ways, even when evil seems to triumph.

So today, childlike faith is called for. Why? Because in the context of Jesus’ suffering, God always has the last word, and today is no different. Sin is paid in full, death is conquered, eternal life is freely given, and a future day awaits where “every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:10-11).”

Some humble suggestions:

  • Listen to wisdom (Proverbs 12:15).
  • Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean to your own understanding. Acknowledge Him in all your ways and know He will direct your path (Proverbs 3:5-6).
  • Lay down your life for your brothers and sisters in Christ (1 John 3:16).
  • Pray for the Church to step forward with Christlike courage.
