What Cost Will You Bear? Part 2

Last week we ended our time by addressing how it has and will continue to cost the people of God to pursue the Kingdom of God.

The cost we are willing to bear is directly related to the depth of our faith that Jesus alone is the hope of glory. We will never bear the cost unless we are clear on the prize. The prize we are pursuing is God’s promise of other prizes.

“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” -Romans 8:18

The cost of this prize is a life lived in sacrifice for the sake of Jesus' name and the sake of the gospel.

The gospel that brings us together today has a greater purpose than gathering us in a safe place on Sunday.

The gospel calls us to bring Christian truth into every aspect of our human life. And it calls us to take the love of Christ to the lost who do not know that “God so loved the world ... (John 3:16)."

We—as the Bride of Christ—have been invited by our Redeemer to engage in the task of making His name great in every tribe, tongue, and nation. There is no confusion in the Scriptures about our call on Earth, and that is why it is called the Great Commission.

In this moment, our Father in Heaven is shouting out the message of redeeming love and forgiveness found in His beloved Son. Our Savior wants to shock our hearts to embrace a fresh awareness that it cannot be “business as usual.” He is calling us to a renewed and heroic effort in pursuit of the cause of Christ. If we want to join the ranks of the courageous, we must grow in our bold witness.

“Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold.” -2 Corinthians 3:12, emphasis added

Our relationship with Jesus came through childlike faith, but our call as followers of Jesus requires a courageous faith. As I’ve said before, our faith is very personal, but it was never meant to be private.

The book of Acts reads like a war journal, and our lives should read the same way.

We—the Body of Christ—are soldiers in the King's army, and we need each other to boldly approach the front lines of His mission.

May we be willing to bear the cost and tell our Savior, “Here am I. Send me (Isaiah 6:8)!"
