Watching the waves, the sand, and the rocks on the beach was captivating. As I stood on the sand each day and let the waves cascade at my feet, I lost my footing as the sand gave way. The opposite happened when I stood on large rock formations. As the waves hit, my feet never moved.
Why? Because I stood not on the ever-changing sands but on the rock that was steadfast, unmovable, and strong no matter what type of waves rolled in.
What a perfect illustration for building our life on the Rock of God’s Word!
"'... upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.'” -Matthew 16:18, ESV
This Rock—Jesus—has not moved in the last 2,000 years despite the waves of war, adversity, destruction, and lostness in the world.
Here are several truths about Jesus—our Rock—found in Scripture:
You can experience peace, joy, and confidence by standing on and trusting in the Rock that is Jesus Christ. He is our stability in this life.
“Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.” –Isaiah 26:4
Jesus is the only hope for the world. But before we look outwardly, we must survey how we’re personally operating in the arenas of family, business, marketplace, and society. This is where we have control in daily trusting and standing on the Rock.
As people with our footing firmly on Jesus, we have God’s message of redeeming love to offer those lacking stability and hope because they’re built on sand.
Today I encourage you to continue building your life on Jesus—the solid Rock—and invite others to do the same. The waves of this world will come, but when we’re standing on Jesus, we can respond in the words of the Apostle Paul, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain (Philippians 1:21).”
Let’s be strong and courageous, building ourselves on the firm foundation.
